Obituary of Ellen S. Martin

Schenectady - Ellen Schlansker Martin of Schenectady, passed away on Friday evening January 26, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Ellen, daughter to the late Alfred H. and Fannie Krage Schlansker, was born in Schenectady, New York.

After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School, Ellen was employed by the Schenectady General Electric from 1943 until 1960.  She then moved to New York City working as a saleswoman for the Maqua Co. for 7 years.  Over the next 9 years, she went to work for several companies in NYC: a Marketing Specialist for the National Council of Churches; back to the Maqua Co;  Siemans Corp of Americas Advertising, Manager of Utility Turbine Division;  the Ries Cappiello - Production and Traffic Manager; and finally back to General Electric in Ads and Sales as Program Administrator of Corporate Publications and Corporate Marketing.  Ellen retired in 1985 after over 30 years of service. 

She was predeceased by her husband James C. Martin, her brothers Alfred, Theodore, Richard and Norman Schlansker.


Ellen was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Schenectady, former Volunteer at Ellis Hospital; former member of Printing Women of New York; Advertising Women of New York; West Side Tennis Club and Trumbell Golf and Tennis Club of Trumbell, CT.


Ellen is survived by sisters-in-law Ellen Schlansker and Margie Schlansker; nieces Karen (William) Schaefer, Susan (Robert) Nuttall and Lisa (Dave) Kolosek; nephews Richard (Laurie) Schlansker and Richard (Angie) Schlansker; 5 great nieces, 6 great nephews; 1 great-grandniece and 1 great-grandnephew.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Christ Church Episcopal on Wednesday at 10 AM followed by burial in Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.  There will be no calling hours.
