Troy- Rev. Dr. Arthur F. Hagy Jr. 85, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 20, 2016. He dedicated his life to caring for others.
Born in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Margaret Allen (Safford) Hagy.
Arthur graduated from Vincentian Institute, class of 1949, attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earned his BA from Albany State Teachers College, BD from Drew University and a Doctor of Ministry also from Drew University. Ordained in 1955, Arthur was associated with the Troy Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, where he served pastorates at Esperance, Granville, Albany, Schenectady, Glens Falls, Delmar, and was Superintendent of the Embury District. He retired in 2000 and began serving as Pastor of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church where he remained active until 2016. Arthur was a member of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church and delegate to several General and Jurisdictional Conferences, TAUM (Troy Area United Ministries), and was supportive of many local and international missions. He was an active Eagle Scout, and enjoyed camping and retreat ministries, especially at Skye Farm Camps, Warrensburg. NY. His interests also included youth work, bicycling, walking, and music.
He is survived by his children Mark (Nancy) Hagy, North Umberland PA, Paul (Sheryll) Hagy, Gansevort NY, Dr. Timothy (Joanne) Hagy Spencerport NY. Susan (Kenneth) Hagy Brooks Stoney Creek NY., grandchildren Isaac Hagy, Laura Hagy, Julie (Eric Blakely), Steven (Elyse) Hagy, Sandra (Michael Gill) Krieg, Rebecca (Anthony Cisneros) Kain, William (Kerrie Sanders) Kain, Ryan Brooks and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30AM at the Center Brunswick United Methodist, 990 Hoosick Rd., Troy, NY 12180.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3 PM to 6 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady
