Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter E. McElligott, 77, passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on March 4, 2013. He was born in New York City in 1935 to Edward and Elizabeth McElligott, of Vestal NY. He received his B.S in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State in 1957, and his M.S and Ph.D. from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1961 and 1966 respectively.
Pete retired from a long career as a physicist, physical chemist and manager at the GE Research and Development Center in 1993. After his "official" retirement, he went on to support a number of small high tech start up businesses at the U-Start Business Incubator at Union College.
Pete maintained a life-long passion for music, and he had reportedly been seen in public playing guitar, banjo, hammered dulcimer and concertina (although he never made much money at it). His other passions have included woodworking, competitive handgun shooting, photography and model ships.
Pete is survived by his wife Flit McElligott of Niskayuna NY, brother Paul and Kathy McElligott of Colonie NY, sister Katherine Anderson of Pittsburgh PA, and sons Brian and Denis McElligott of the Washington DC area. He is also survived by his grandchildren Caitlyn and Christopher McElligott, nephews Matthew McElligott & Mark Anderson, nieces Jennifer Littman, Isabelle Kingsley and Kim & Kay Hughes. Pete was predeceased by his brothers in law Robert Anderson & Edward Hughes, and sister in law Isabelle Gijanto.
A viewing will be held at the Jones Funeral Home (1503 Union St Schenectady NY 12309) from 4-8PM on Thursday march 7 2013. The funeral will be held on Friday March 8 at 10AM at the same location, followed by internment at Evergreen Memorial Park.
