Obituary of Marion E. Miller

Marion E. Miller 91, of The Glen Eddy, Niskayuna, NY, died Wednesday October 17, 2012. Born in Hamilton, NY, daughter of J. Horton Fountain and Ruth Woodman Fountain. In addition to her parents she is pre-deceased by her husband John W. Miller in 1978, a sister Ida Gowdy and a brother John H. Fountain Jr. Marion is survived by her brother Richard K. Fountain or Cazenovia, NY , her daughter Alma Gordon of Amenia, NY and her son John H. Miller and his wife Michelle of Bloomfield Hills, Mich,; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of SUNY, Potsdam, Marion majored in Early Childhood Education and spent 38 years teaching Kindergarten, retiring from the Niskayuna School District in 1983. During World War II she was Director of a large day care center for children of military personnel stationed in Washington, DC, she also worked the "Graveyard Shift " at Oneida Community silverplanting bearings for Bombers during summer vacation from teaching, and manning a "Tower" to report on aircraft over her community. Upon retiring from teaching Marion volunteered at the Schenectady Public Library, Ellis Hospital, Bellevue Woman's Hospital and The Historical Society. She was a member of the Schenectady Historical Society, Y W C A, Friends of the Schenectady County Library, American Association of University Women and the Niskayuna Reformed Church, New York State Teachers Assoc. and UCALL at Union College. Marion served on the boards of Family and Child Services, The Volunteer board of Ellis Hospital and the Schenectady Day Nursery. At Marion's request there will be no memorial service. Graveside services will be conducted for the immediate family at their convenience.
