I was fortunate enough to meet Mrs. Miller when I was 19 years old through her son John, many years ago. She was a kind, gentle and wonderful woman who was always so very nice to everyone she met. I always felt welcome when I was in their home, offering me something to drink or eat, and then just speaking with me as a friend. I was honored when she attended my wedding many years later, and always enjoyed our notes at Christmas. I know that she touched so many lives through her tenure as a kindergarten teacher and all of her charitable efforts. Marion Miller left a mark in this world for the good, and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of spending time with her. John, sending you my deepest sympathy and thoughts at this difficult time.

It's a long but wonderful story. I met Mr.and Mrs. Miller through my then college boyfriend at Union, Joe Baird who met them through his college roomate Dave Steven whose parents were neighbors and friends of the Millers in Niskayuna - this was in 1971. Joe arrived for the summer of 1971 in Schenectady to work at GE and found himself alone and far away from home. Joe and I visited the Millers frequently - as a place to watch a favorite TV show, have a home cooked meal, a quiet place to study or just a warm and welcoming home with our surrogate parents. Mrs. Miller (to this day, never Marion to us!) Although Joe and I went our separate ways for 36 years (and mourned the loss of Mr. Miller), we both stayed in touch - they were role models to us for how a loving couple should be. Whenever I returned to campus for reunions (every 5 years) I had a home waiting for me and I cherished those visits. After Joe and I got back together in 2006 we visited Mrs. Miller several times and for our wedding she gave us a numbered primt of the Nott Memorial because I had always admired it. My neice is now at Union and we still return to Schenectady. It will not be the same without her welcoming smile, her warm welcome and a home cooked meal. You have made a difference in our lives - we are now that loving couple that you and Mr. Miller inspired us to be, and we are honored to be among your many 'kids'. God;s peace to you - you are finally able to be back together with the love of your life.

What can one say about a teacher who left an incredible impression? Marion was a one-of-a-kind teacher. I was fortunate enough to have her as my Kindergarten teacher in the mid 60's at Rosendale Elementary School in Niskayuna. She was loving, attentive, funny and genuine. I asked Marion to visit my First Grade classroom in the 90's at Veeder Elementary in South Colonie. She loved reading to the children and I was so honored to have her there. She brought me a gift - a doll that my mother gave her for her classroom in 1966. How wonderful to think that she saved the doll for all of those many years. Thankfully, I spoke with Marion on the phone last year and she had that same wonderful voice as I remembered so many years ago. We had such a wonderful conversation. What a great woman, teacher and role model. She will be in my memory forever!
