Albany- Roslyn (Sitrin Horwitz) Weinstein 89, of Albany NY, died on June 18, 2011, at Daughter's of Sarah Nursing Home. She was born in Utica NY on March 5, 1921 to Max and Jeannette Philipson. She was married to Moses Sitrin in 1940 (deceased 1955). She worked as director of personnel at Doeskin Sitrue during her remaining time in Utica. In 1957 she married Alan Horwitz (deceased 1998) and in 1962 they moved to Albany. She was Executive Director of the New York Planning Federation for many years before retiring. At that time she became involved in many volunteer activities: Sisterhood at Temple Israel and support activity for the State of Israel. She helped develop a music therapy program at Parsons Child and Family Services and later started a ministerial program at Child's Nursing Home. In 1992 she was married to Harold Weinstein (deceased 1994). She was an avid reader and enjoyed music, especially the opera, a joy she shared often with her brother Robert Philipson (deceased). Her other great joy was her family and especially her grandchildren. Roz is predeceased by her daughter, Susan (Sitrin) Leonard and survived by her son, Sherman Sitrin of Marlboro NY and daughter, Miriam (Horwitz/Jones) Miller of Northville NY. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A remembrance ceremony will take place on Monday, June 20th at 1 PM at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St), in Schenectady. Burial will follow at 4 PM at Temple Beth El Cemetery in Utica, NY. Friends and family are welcome to call at the Miller home in Northville where the family will be sitting shiva for the following 2 days. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
