Obituary of George G. Ives

George Gehm Ives of Coburg Village Way peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Gateway House of Peace. He was 97 years old.
George was born in Schenectady on August 27, 1919, son of Arthur P. Ives and Matilda (Gehm) Ives. He was the husband of the late Myrtle F. Ives for almost 75 years whom he married on August 31, 1940.
He graduated from Nott Terrace in 1938 joining the Apprentice Program at GE. George served in the Navy in the Pacific arena during WWII. He returned to GE as a pattern maker and retired as the Manager of Production Control Valve Subsection of the Turbine Department.
He was a member of the GE Management Assoc. and Quarter Century Club. Active at Trinity Lutheran Church he served as president for many years. He was Chairman of the Board of Lay Ministry and sang in the choir. George enjoyed golf, woodworking and spending time with his family. While living at Coburg Village he organized many activities and served for two years as the President of the Resident Assoc.
Survivors include his children Karl (JoAnn) Ives of Rexford, Cheryl (Randy) MacNeil of Scotia, Doug (Patricia) Ives of Scotia; adoring grandchildren, Bruce (Kathleen) Ives, Wendy (Michael) Carpenter, Heidi Ives (Rebecca Helm), Sharon MacNeil, Brian Ives, Gregory (Azure) Ives, Melissa (LT) Rutter, Melanie Stark (Breina Cohn), Timothy (Hannah) Stark, 15 great grandchildren, his sister Doris Pitcher and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by grandson Eric MacNeil, great granddaughter Taylor Ives, daughter-in-law Sandra Ives; and siblings, Arthur Ives, Charles Ives and Eunice Quay.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 15 at Coburg Village Auditorium, 1 Coburg Village Way, Rexford. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Community Hospice or Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa.
