Obituary of Gertrude E. Nappi

Schenectady-Gertrude Horton Nappi, a former resident of Rugby Road, became an Angel on January 12, 2017 at the age of 98.
Gert was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Carl A. Nappi Sr. in 1997, her sister Peggy Damberg, daughter in-laws Nancy and Sandra, grandson Michael, and great grandson Bradley.
She is survived by her children; Carl Jr. (Diane) Glenville, Thomas (Donna) Niskayuna, Richard, Greenfield Center, and Francis, Niskayuna; 11 grandchildren; Michele Saffer, Robert, John, Christopher, Thomas, Melissa Banks, Lora Hyde, Kirt, Timothy, Bridget Rodecker, and Kevin; 29 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Gertrude was born in Schenectady on November 8, 1918. She was a graduate of Draper High School. During WW II, she was employed at GE. She later worked at Salamacks, and eventually retired from Trusco Bank. Gert enjoyed life and fun times vacationing with family at Saratoga and Sacandaga Lakes. She was an avid Yankees and Duke fan. She bowled for many years with the Moose League and enjoyed a good game of cards.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 17th at 10:30am at St. Kateri Parish, 1803 Union St., Niskayuna. Calling hours will be Monday evening from 5pm to 7pm at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
In lieu of flower, donations may be made in Gertrude's memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, or to Ellis Residential and Rehab Center, 600 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ellis for the wonderful care they extended to their mother throughout her time with them.
