Gertrude Hilde Freya Wolf Adamec 89, passed away at home on August 19, 2013 with her loving children by her side.
Born on January 9, 1924 Gertrude grew up in New Hyde Park, New York. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY in 1939, Adelphi University in 1943, and completed her Master's Degree in Mathematics from Columbia University in 1944.
She met her future husband John at an intercollegiate Lutheran event in New York City, and they married on July 8, 1950. A former Sewanhaka High School teacher and college instructor in mathematics, she retired from teaching in 1955 to raise her family. Her experiences selling and buying sparked a career in realty which spanned more than 20 years with Welbourne and Purdy Realty Inc.
Gertrude and John enjoyed watercolor painting, traveling across the US, Canada and Europe as well as square and contradancing. They particularly enjoyed spending time in Maine.
Gertrude volunteered for many years at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center gift shop.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband John B. Adamec; her sisters, Dorothea Sehringer, Eleonore Halpin; and her beloved dachshunds.
Gertrude is survived by her children, John C.W. Adamec (Cheryl), Carl F.W. Adamec, Trudy C.A. Hudson (David); grandchildren John R. Adamec (Bethany), Matthew T. Adamec, Amy V. Hudson and Peter J. Hudson; her beloved brother Dr. Carl F. Wolf and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, from 4PM to 7PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.) Schenectady. A Funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY. Internment will take place Tuesday, August 27th at 1 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, New York.
