Obituary of Carmen Lawler
Please share a memory of Carmen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmen Lawler, 85, passed away April 27th, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was born on July 14,1932 in Schenectady, NY daughter of Filomena and Henry DePersis.
Carmen was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. After graduation, she worked at General Electric until she worked for Mayer Wagner of New York City. She then began an illustrious career with Merrill Lynch. She was known for inspiring and teaching other co-workers to become great account executives. Carmen was the first woman stock broker in the Albany office and her colleagues referred to her as “a diamond in the rough.” After retiring from Merrill Lynch, she worked for New York State Tax and Finance for ten years until she retired.
Carmen loved to spend time at her cottage on Hedges Lake. It was here that she enjoyed playing scrabble, and bocci ball. You could always find her working on a puzzle. Carmen was an avid reader, and it was not unusual for her to read a book in a day. She loved to socialize with family, friends and neighbors at the lake.
Although she never had children of her own, she was a “mother” to many and her generosity, love and care will not be forgotten.
Carmen is survived by her beloved husband Frank R. Lawler (“Dickie”) of sixty years. She is survived by her sister Henrietta Charton and her husband John Charton. Carmen was preceded in death by her sister Dolores Lovett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephew as well as many cousins.
A celebration of Carmen’s life will take place on Tuesday, May 1st at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305 with visitation beginning at noon and mass beginning at 1pm.
Carmen’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the level of care that she received from Dr. Drislane, she was more than a doctor; she was a friend, and the gentle kindness of the staff and nurses at St. Peter’s Hospital.
