Obituary of Dolores Rose Watson

Schenectady, NY - Dolores “Mickie” Watson passed away at home, with family on Wednesday, April 18th.
Born on May 5, 1931 in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of Mary and John Moretti. On May 2, 1969, she married Raymond Watson, who passed away in 1997.
Though born and raised in the city, Mickie was a country girl at heart. As a child she spent summers at her family’s property in rural Sullivan County. She raised her children on Long Island for several decades, but upon his retirement, her husband Ray handed her the family checkbook and told her to go upstate to buy the farm she always wanted. Mickie did just that, leaving a $50 deposit with an old farmer in Montgomery County for 120 acres. As with everything else, Mickie excitedly jumped into working the family’s hobby farm. She also became a fixture in the community, running a downtown craft store, conducting art lessons, and selflessly driving two high-school aged kids to every event imaginable.
At various points in her life, Mickie was a dance instructor, a religious education teacher, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a farmer, a business owner, an artist and an art instructor. But the most important job to her was being a mom. Before her marriage to Ray, she raised two children. With Ray she had two more. Every friend her kids had over for dinner and every girlfriend, boyfriend and eventual spouse considered her their “mom” as well.
Many family vacations were enjoyed on the road with her husband and kids - singing or telling stories around a campfire or, on rainy days, playing cards or other games. If it was cheering on her son at his football games, decorating their house with larger than life, hand-painted characters for Christmas, throwing a Chicken-Pox party to cheer-up her daughter when she missed her First Communion, or beaming with pride at every child’s graduation and wedding, Mickie made the most of her time with her family - always thinking of ways to make their lives special. Even during her final days, while facing much pain and fear, she wondered what she could have done better. The simple answer to that was - not a thing.
Mickie exhibited so much excitement at every accomplishment and event, big or small, in her family’s lives. With every child finding their own love, and with every grandchild - as her family grew, so did her happiness.
Survivors include her brother, George Moretti with her sister-in-law, Kathy, of Manorville, NY; her first son Edward “Butch” DeSimone, with her daughter-in-law, Marilyn and her grandson, Christopher, of Bethpage, NY; her second daughter Rosellen Watson Bowen, with her son-in-law Bill and her grandson, Billy of Rotterdam, NY; and her second son John Watson, with her daughter-in-law Karonne and her newest grandson, Henry, of Niskayuna, NY. Mickie survived both her first daughter, Donna Moore and her son-in-law Gene, of Randall, NY. Mickie also survived her granddaughter, Tempest Watson of Niskayuna, NY.
Calling hours will be Monday April 23rd from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY 12203. A Service of the Word will immediately follow at 10:30am at church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
