Obituary of Bruno De Paoli Jr.
Bruno De Paoli, Jr., of Hawthorn Road, Niskayuna, NY died on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at his residence. Mr. De Paoli was 94.
Mr. De Paoli was born on February 13, 1924 in New York, NY. He attended MIT while in the Navy and graduated in 1948 from Lehigh University with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering and a BA in Industrial Psychology. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946.
Mr. De Paoli began his professional career in 1948 as a test engineer with General Electric. He served in several executive marketing and production positions in GE, retiring in 1980 as Manager of Marketing of the Wiring Device Department of Rhode Island. Following his retirement, he joined the Plastics Machinery Division of John Brown Ltd. (Rhode Island) as Vice President of Marketing. He held that position until the division was bought out. A short time later, he became Director of Marketing of the Leviton Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1986. In 1987, he and his wife Ilah moved back to Schenectady where they had started in 1948. In 1992, he assumed the managerial reins of the TAG group of PTI, serving in that position until 1994.
Mr. De Paoli was active in community affairs throughout his life. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, serving as an elder and deacon and Vice Chairman of the Building Committee. He was chairman of Boy Scout Troop 34, active in the Niskayuna Little League, and a member of the Citizens Committee for Fiscal Responsibility for Niskayuna Schools. He was also an avid supporter of the Schenectady Community College, serving as the first chairman of the SCCC Foundation. He was a longtime member of the Mohawk Golf Club and an accomplished golfer. He was a member of the Elfun Society of GE, serving as chairman of the Detroit chapter.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Ilah; his four children, Neill (m. Kathleen) of Kittery, ME; Steven (m. Darnell) of Waimanalo, HI; Jamie, of Brooklyn, NY, and Melissa (m. Chris) of Albany, NY; and his five grandchildren, Gabriel, Hannah, Jesse, Thomas and Ilah.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2018, followed by a reception at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Reformed Church’s First Futures Campaign.
