Ellijay, GA

Lawrence P. Mannolini of Ellijay, GA, formerly of Esperance, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. He was 68.

Mr. Mannolini was born on September 17, 1949, son of the late Lorenzo and Genevieve Mannolini. He is the husband of Leslie (Mix) Mannolini.

He attended Niskayuna High School where he was an accomplished varsity wrestler and football player and graduated in 1967. He then attended the University of Hartford where he continued his athletic endeavors.  Larry served in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Elizabeth City, NC.  Larry also furthered his education at Schenectady County Community College.

He played semi-professional football as a defensive tackle for the Hudson Falls Greenjackets during such time the team made the playoffs during the late 70s in the Empire Football League.

Larry had a wide range of work in his career.  For a number of years he was a route manager for Freihoffer’s, Drake’s, and Bachman’s.  He was the owner of the former Stage Door Deli located in Proctor’s Arcade and co-owner of the former cruise boat the Kittie West II, both in Schenectady, NY. Larry also enjoyed working as a subcontracted stage hand for I.A.T.S.E. Local 14 in Albany, NY, assisting in the setup and teardown of many major concerts and off-broadway theater productions.  He worked for 16 years for the French Company before his retirement in 2016.

He and Leslie built the cabin of their dreams on family property in Esperance NY in 2001, where he loved hunting, and shooting his many rifles, shotguns, and pistols.  He enjoyed riding his tractor mowing the lawns or cutting wood for the fireplace.

He was able to indulge his love for travel and they made many weekend and weeklong excursions to places such as Niagara Falls, the 1000 Islands, and cruises to Alaska, Mexico, and the Caribbean region.  He enjoyed spending time at Kathan Kamps at Sacandaga Lake with the Mixes, many 4th of July vacations at Canandaigua with family, and travels around the holidays to see family in Florida.

After his retirement, he and Leslie relocated to the North Georgia mountains of Ellijay, Georgia in June of 2017 where he felt right at home.

Larry was a member of the Wawarsing Rod & Gun Club in Napanoch, NY., for many years and he was a proud lifetime supporter and Life Member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors in addition to his wife Leslie Mannolini of Ellijay, GA include a son, Lawrence P. Mannolini III of NY., his siblings, Michael Mannolini of FL., Mary Ellen (Buddy) Broomhall of, NY and Karen (William) Heck of FL., a niece, Amy (Brian) Flagler and a nephew Michael Mannolini both of FL. As well as other nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted Saturday April 14th at noon at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12309 with private burial to follow in Schenectady Memorial Park.
