Obituary of Richard V. Schlansker

Richard Vernon Schlansker, 87, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Friday, January 6, 2017.
Born in Schenectady, New York on December 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Fannie Krage and Alfred Schlansker. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and attended Albany Business School. He trained with the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division and served in Greenland as a radio operator during the Korean War. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady for 43 years.
Dick was a great outdoors man and loved to ski, hunt, ice fish, and water ski. In his retirement, he became an avid gardener. He was incredibly kind, hardworking, humble, and always the consummate gentleman. He adored his family and his greatest pleasure came from time spent with them, both travelling and at home. He will be forever missed and always in our hearts and in our minds.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ellen Meyer Schlansker; his son Richard Schlansker and his daughter Lisa Schlansker Kolosek; his son-in-law David Kolosek; daughter-in-law Angela Nevarez Schlansker; his four grandchildren Ella and Grace Kolosek and Bowe and Meyer Schlansker; his brother Theodore Schlansker and sister Ellen Martin.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13 at Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa, followed by a committal service at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Alzheimer's Association.
