Edward W. Feuerstein, 76, of Glenville, died Friday August 1, 2008 at Baptist Health & Rehabilitation. In October of 2007, Ed was diagnosed with melanoma cancer.
He was born March 29, 1932 to William and Christine Feuerstein in Philadelphia, PA. He attended LaSalle High School and graduated from Villanova University in 1954. He married Joann Garrity in 1963, in Pittsfield, MA and then moved to Glenville. Ed was an executive at General Electric for 41 years, retiring in 1994.
Throughout his long career, Ed was very active in civic activities. His biggest passion was his devotion to St. John the Baptist Church where he served as Vice President of Finance and held leadership roles for Parish Counsel. He also served as a volunteer for SCORE, as a business consultant and by helping out at the Schenectady Soup Kitchen. His affiliations include the Edison Club, a member for over 30 years; the Knights of Columbus; and GE Elfun member.
Survivors include his children: Edward Feuerstein, Jr. (wife Hope) of Glenville, Marie Nourie (husband Phil) of Westport, CT and Meg Heffernan (husband Tim) of Wyckoff, NJ; siblings: Joseph Feuerstein, Seattle, WA; Ruth Finn, New Orleans, LA;); five grandchildren: Brittany (11) and Zac Feuerstein (7); Abbie (8), Liam (6) and Katie (2) Heffernan.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joann, his sister Marie Feuerstein and his brother Bud Feuerstein.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday at 10am at St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady. Calling hours will be Monday from 5pm to 8pm at the Jones Funeral Home 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.) Schenectady for those who wish to call. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
The Parish council will meet on Monday at 4:45pm at the funeral home for a prayer service.
