Marion Ruth (Furman) Luther, 83, formerly of Schenectady, beloved wife for 63 years to Norman G. Luther, passed away at Manchester Memorial Hospital, Manchester, CT on Wednesday August 13, 2008. Born on April 3, 1925, she was the youngest child of the late Anna J. (McMillan) and Louis E. Furman. She was a proud graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Schenectady. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Luther was employed at the Wallace Department Store and the General Electric Company. Marion and her husband, Norman, were married April 29, 1945 at Mont Pleasant Reformed Church, where Marion was a Sunday School teacher for many years. During her marriage Marion partnered her husband in the family business, Luther's Ice Cream Parlor, for over 40 years. In 1983 Marion and Norman became members of Niskayuna Reformed Church. She was very active with annual flea markets and antique shows as well as a member the Dorcas Circle and past president of Pairs and Spares.
Marion was especially committed to the well being of her family as a devoted wife and partner, loving mother, exceptional mother-in-law, doting grandmother and caring aunt. We will miss her sparkling blue eyes, her generous nature and her whole-hearted support of all we undertook. You are a tough act to follow, Mom.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Ward Ponticelli of Manchester, CT and their children, Peter and fianc?e Corey of Coventry, CT; Alexandra of Manchester, CT and Eric and fianc?e Jessica of Vernon, CT her nieces Patricia Gartner of Parsippany, NJ and Barbara Weidman of Albany, NY and her nephew Clayton Stahl of Levittown, PA; grandniece and -nephews and great grandnieces and -nephew. Marion was predeceased in 1966 by her son David, brothers Milton and Louis, and sisters Helen and Ethel.
A Celebration of Marion's Life will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy Schenectady Road, Schenectady at 10 am with burial to follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie, NY. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady from 4pm to 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Niskayuna Reformed Church, Building Fund. Condolences may be sent in care of: Mr. & Mrs. Ward Ponticelli, 52 Vernon St. Manchester, CT 06042.
