I don’t know who, if anyone ever, will read this, but I wanted to add my thoughts to this page, even now almost ten years after he passed. In 1969 Roy hired me as a young kid at age 25, to lend a youthful approach to what he knew was staid, old-school thinking in GE corporate’s advertising and promotion. He gave me free rein to come up with new ideas; he encouraged me and protected me from higher-ups who didn’t understand this young guy from an advertising agency who wouldn’t come to work on time but stayed long after the execs had left for their trains, and who wouldn’t wear the GE ‘uniform’ of the day, the pin striped blue suit and dark tie. Roy let me wear whatever I wanted, and explained to the ‘old guys’ at GE that they needed to loosen up a little and join the ‘modern age.’
He inspired me, he nurtured me, and, five years later, when I decided I’d had enough of corporate life and wanted to go back to hands on television production, tried his best to convince me to stay. “You’ll be a VP in no time,” he offered, but I wasn’t interested in being a corporate VP.
I left GE, stayed in touch, he hired me freelance on several projects, and then I gave away my suits, put on my jeans and went to Hollywood, where I had a wonderfully successful career for 40 years. But I have never forgotten Roy Stratton, that wonderful man who guided my early career and, like a father, let me know that there wasn’t anything I couldn’t accomplish.
Long Live Roy Stratton.

Barbara, I don't believe we have ever met, but it was my distinct honor and pleasure to know and work with Roy -- first in the GE A&SP Department in Schenectady, and later on the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Regardless of the circumstances, Roy Stratton was the consummate professional, from whom I learned much and without whom the communications business is diminished. God bless you and your family.

My darling girlfriend, Susanne ... Although I never had the opportunity to meet your dad in person, through your loving words I feel as though I knew him, and through your kind actions I sense the gifts of honesty, love, and spirituality he passed along to you. It's obvious the world is a better place because of your dad's dedication to his clubs, organizations, and charities. Heaven has gained another Angel. God Bless ... Laurie

Roy was a wonderful mentor to me during my GE days, we enjoyed our times with him and your mother Toni. After our move to Hilton Head in 2002, we did manage to keep in touch from a distance.

My deepest sympathy's go out to the Stratton family and everyone who's life was transformed by Roy's incredible lifes achievments and volunteer contributions to so many. I never knew so much about Roy until I read his obituary. What a beautiful life story! I understand in the end of his life he was so brave and died with dignity. I will always remember Roy as a kind hearted and caring father with a dear smile.I will never forget him. Only if I could die so well. Find and grasp ahold of Jesus in these saddest of times. Love to you all. Joanne (Latham) Blackford.

Dear Susanne, Pam and Sarah: My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of sadness and loss. Your family was my second family during those early years in Westport, CT and I remember you dad so vividly -- he was so handsome and graceful. I never stopped wising that you would all move back! After reading your dad's obituary it's obvious that he had a powerful impact on the many people he touched in his lifetime. I hope your sadness is soon replaced with beautiful memories. Much love to you all, Char

Dear Roy and all his direct and extended family. I did not know you that well, however whenever I saw you I always saw a man who was driven by passion, passion for his family, passion for his xmas photoshoot. Driven by work ethics, fair at tennis, pretty good on the old joanna, how you and Roy snr must be entertaining the crowds up there with you interpretations on how the blues could be played on one piano. As you once said see Barabara, my family from the other side of the ocean ain't all that bad and neither were you Bob

Dear Barb and family, Please accept my deepest sympathy and best regards. I first became familiar with Roy when he joined the Board of the Northeast Parent & Child Society. I was Exec. Dir. at the time. During that time and for all time thereafter we became friends and colleagues in service to our community. Roy was a man to be respected and admired, his good works and dedication to his family and his community were legendary. Roy will be missed!

Dear Barb and Family: We send our deepest sympathy to you all on the passing of Roy. He had much to struggle against during the last few years, but he loved life, and all of you together kept him going. We admired his courage, but feel he has earned his freedom. We hope for your peace of mind now, and an end to grief and pain for you as well as Roy. We wish you joy and love, and quiet enjoyment of the natural beauty around us. Joan and Pete Ipsen.
