Schenectady-The Reverend Franklin Norman Wright, Jr., son of Franklin N. Wright and Lorena Hart (Moore) Wright entered into eternal life Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009. He was born April 27, 1921 in Schenectady. He graduated from the former Mont Pleasant High School in 1938. He also graduated from the former New York State College for Teachers (now SUNY Albany) in 1942 and from the Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey, in 1945.
Pastor Wright served churches in Hyndsville, Dorloo, and Mineral Springs; Mayfield and Bleecker; Canajoharie and Marshville; Centre Glenville; Glens Falls; and Cobleskill, from where he retired in 1986 after serving there for 16 years.
Following retirement, he continued to serve as Associate Pastor of the former Trinity United Methodist Church, part-time Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, and interim and, later, Pastor of Visitation of the Broadway United Methodist Church, all in Schenectady.
For several years, he was the protestant chaplain at the Glendale Nursing Home, conducting weekly worship services and visitations to the residents.
Pastor Wright was bestowed the honor of the title Pastor Emeritus of both the Cobleskill United Methodist Church and Faith United Methodist Church in Schenectady.
In the Troy Annual Conference, he served as director of Senior High Youth work for many years and was on the Boards of Higher Education and Ordained Ministry.
Pastor Wright was also active in many ways in the various communities in which he served. He was elected the first president of the newly formed chapter of the Fulton County Association for Retarded Children and, later, served as president of the Schoharie County ARC. He was a member of the Glens Falls Kiwanis Club; a member and secretary for the Cobleskill Rotary Club. He and his wife have been members of the Interfaith Community of Schenectady, serving on the Council, and for several years were co-treasurers.
Franklyn was married on October 12, 1947, to the former Eleanor E. Brumaghim. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years; a son, Jonathan William Arthur (Theresa) of Clover, South Carolina; 2 granddaughters, Jaime Alexis Wright and Taylor Ann Wright of Clover, South Carolina; brother, David E. Wright (Eleanor) of Schenectady; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Richard Alan Wright, who died in 1969 and a brother, Donald Whitney Wright, who died in 2007.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, at 3 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 811 North Brandywine Avenue, Schenectady, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Cobleskill United Methodist Church or the Faith United Methodist Church in Schenectady.
