Obituary of Eileen Corrigan

Niskayuna- Eileen Corrigan, formerly of Rowe Road, Niskayuna, passed away after a long illness on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Ellis Hospital. Miss Corrigan was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Owen M. and Anne Hickey Corrigan. She graduated from the College of St. Rose with a A. B. degree in English and Sociology. She also obtained a M.L.S. degree in communication from the State University of New York at Albany and took post graduate courses from Syracuse University, Boston University and the State University of New York at Albany, Oneonta and Plattsburgh. Miss Corrigan was a licensed teacher of religious education in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany and was certified as a volunteer Red Cross nurse's aide at Ellis Hospital. She taught high school English and was a media specialist in the Niskayuna School District for many years. She helped develop the Iroquois Middle School Library into a modern media center complete with video equipment purchased from a grant she obtained in 1978. Miss Corrigan was a communicant of Saint Helen's Roman Catholic Church where she served as secretary of St. Helen's Parish Council, chairman of the Christian Service Committee, chairman of the education committee, member of the phonathon committee for church renovations, teacher in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Program, member of the Pastoral Care Program, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Mass Co-coordinator. She was also an active member of the Alumni Association of the College of Saint Rose where she served as past president, vice president, secretary and board member of the college's Schenectady Chapter, in addition to serving on the Albany Scholarship Committee. She was a member of the alumni association of the State University of New York at Albany, the New York State Right to Life, the Association of the Ladies of Charity, St. Clare's Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library, Niskayuna Teachers Association, the New York State United Teachers and The Family Rosary. Eileen was predeceased by her parents and her seven siblings; Geraldine, Rita, Bernice, John, Donald, Robert J. and Mary Hickcox. She is survived by several cousins and many dear friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 9 AM at St. Helen's Church. Calling hours will be Tuesday (today) from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady, for those who wish to call. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, St. Helen's Church, 1803 Union St., Niskayuna, NY 12309, Carmelite Monastery, 1931 West Jefferson Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 or to Northeast Parent and Child Society, 530 Franklin St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
