Obituary of Rosemond F. Gautie

Rosemond F. Gautie, age eighty nine, of Schenectady, passed away on May 3, 2012, following a brief illness.
Born Rosemond Frances Frederick on October 7th, 1922 in Schenectady, New York, the daughter of William and Bertha Frederick, she was the second-youngest of nine children in her family.
Rosemond graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1940, and then enlisted as a WAVE in the United States Navy, where she served as Yeoman First Class. She was stationed in Miami and supported the war effort as a cryptographer.
During her service she married Ensign Joseph Gautie, a B-24 Bomber pilot on August 1, 1944. Married for almost fifty years, they raised six children in Schenectady, NY. After raising her family, she returned to work at her family's business, WJ Frederick & Sons Florist.
Rosemond was a communicant of Saint John the Evangelist Church. She was an active member of The Women's Club of Schenectady - Junior Division, and The Cotillion Dance Club.
Rosemond greatly enjoyed summers at her lake house on Friends Lake, where her children, grandchildren, and their friends were always welcome. She created a world of love, laughter and fun at the camp, which fully enveloped her extended family and their large circle of friends. She offered warm hospitality and generous affection to all, and leaves behind wonderful memories for everyone who was fortunate enough to share this special world with her.
Rosemond moved through life with a quiet grace and strength. She accepted life's challenges while always focusing on its joys. Her gentle nature and generous heart were a gift to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Eleanor and Edward Mach of Schenectady; Bruce and Kathleen Gautie of Ballston Spa; Stephen and Linda Gautie of Portsmouth Rhode Island; Peter Gautie of Schenectady; Allison and Daniel Barry of Las Vegas, Nevada; Bryan and Jill Gautie of Albany. Her grandchildren include: Christopher and Stacy Mach, Dallas, Texas: Laura and Charles Campbell, Waterford; Adam Gautie and fiancé, Ann Marie Nurnberger, Portsmouth Rhode Island; Sarah Gautie and fiancé, Greg Ferreira, Vernon Connecticut; Emma Gautie, Portsmouth Rhode Island; Allison Rosemond and Brent Suerdieck, League City, Texas, Caitlyn and Andrew Kano, Corpus Christi, Texas, Patrick Barry, Bamberg, Germany, Elizabeth and Matthew Flahive, Chantilly, Virginia and Albert Gautie, Altamont. Rosemond leaves behind her great grandchildren Joseph Reed and Robert Henry Mach, Dallas, Texas; Eleanor Campbell, Waterford; Grace, Danielle Rosemond, William Joseph, and Grant Suerdieck, League City Texas; Bryan, Owen, Allison, and Baby-on-the-Way Kano, Corpus Christi, Texas, and her sister, Ruth MacDonald of Friends Lake and Queensbury. Rosemond is preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost fifty years, Joseph A. Gautie, her granddaughter Ann Elizabeth Gautie, her parents and seven siblings.
The family extends an expression of gratitude to Ruth MacDonald and Hal and Norma Penistan for assisting Rosemond during her summers on Friends Lake.
Visiting hours will be held at Jones' Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street in Schenectady (518-346-3881) on Sunday, May 6th, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.
A prayer service will be held at Jones' Funeral home on Monday, May 7th at 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 812 Union Street, Schenectady, (518-372-3381) on Monday, May 7th at 11:00. Internment will follow with Military Honors at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
