Obituary of Ernest Edward Johnson

Schenectady - Ernest Edward Johnson of Niskayuna passed away on August 8, 2011 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 68. Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 15, 1943, son of the late Ernest E. and Marguerite (Hedman) Johnson. On September 19th 1970 he married the former Eileen Caswell. Ed graduated from Lane Tech high school in Chicago in 1961 and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana from 1961 to 1966, earning both bachelors and masters degrees in Mechanical Engineer before moving to Schenectady NY in 1966. Ed went on to a renowned 45 year career as an engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, most recently as advisory engineer. Ed enjoyed spending his summers on Friends Lake and traveling to Aruba with his family. Survivors in addition to his wife Eileen include daughter, Diana and fiancé Patrick Moran of Westford, VT; Son, Mark and wife Lauren Johnson of Chicago, Il; Sister, Marilyn and husband Toshiro Tatiewa of Hemeji City, Japan; Aunt, Dorothy Carlson of Peoria, AZ and cousin, Janet and husband Ronald Terranella of Sun City, AZ. Also survived by his niece and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00pm on Thursday, August 11th at the Faith United Methodist Church- 811 North Brandywine Ave (at Eastern Avenue) in Schenectady with longtime friend Theodore Vickery officiating.
