Obituary of George W. Rehbein

Schenectady - George W. Rehbein, former Director of Plant Facilities at the Albany Medical Center, died Tuesday June 17 at home. Mr. Rehbein, aged 95, was a resident of Schenectady since relocating from Miami, FL. in 1954 where he worked at Southern Bell Telephone Co. for 19 years. After nearly 25 years at Albany Medical Center he retired in 1986. He attended the University of Miami for engineering, and studied voice both at the University of Miami Conservatory of Music and privately . He was a well known singer and entertainer on radio and stage since age 13. He was a decorated veteran of WWII where he served four years in the Army as a Master Sergeant in the Central Pacific Base Command. While serving there he also entertained the troops singing with the Big Bands. Mr. Rehbein was a member of the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church for 60 years where he served as Chairman of Trustees, Treasurer, Youth Counselor, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He also served on the Board of the Governor Clinton Council of the Boy Scouts of America. An avid golfer, he also loved cruising in the Caribbean with his wife, family and friends. As a tenor with American Music Abroad, he toured Europe and Scandinavia singing in some of the great old Cathedrals. With the Octavo Singers, he toured England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. A much loved family man, he is survived by his wife of 57 years Susan Gabel Rehbein, two daughters, Deborah Pavlus (Mark), Catherine Faulkner (Jeffrey); three grandchildren, Benjamin Endres, June Evanoff (Sean) and Ryan Faulkner (Kinga); and three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Rory and Audrey Evanoff. Calling hours will be Friday, June 20 from 5PM to 7PM at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.) Schenectady. A memorial service will be held at the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church (corner of Eastern Parkway and Palmer Ave) on Saturday, June 21 at 11am. There will be a private burial at Parkview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church.
