Obituary of Ruth M. Campbell

Ruth M. Campbell, 84, died peacefully in Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. She lived most of her life in Scotia.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wallace M. Campbell, by her three children: Laurie (Ralph) Slater, Ronald (Cathy), Richard (Lynn), by seven grandchildren: Andrew Henderson, Becki Henderson, Liz (Brad) Robertson, Scott (Elaine), Sara (Andy) Westerhaus, Hannah (Tom) Poore, and Molly. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Matthew, and Katelyn Westerhaus, Micah Campbell, and Abigail Poore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Blanche MacKenzie, and by all four siblings. Her parents were officers in The Salvation Army in the Midwest, and she attended 17 different schools throughout her early years.
She and Wally were married in 1951, and they moved from Chicago to Scotia in 1957. She taught for 27 years in the Scotia public schools, and was also the Elementary Principal of Schenectady Christian School. She was an Honorary Life Member of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers. She graduated from Wheaton College, and later earned the M.S. in Special Education from the College of St. Rose. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady for more than fifty years.
She tutored many students over the years, and was greatly beloved as a teacher and administrator. She was in good health until she suffered a stroke in October 2014. She had a great love for students, education, music, her entire family, and for her Lord and Savior. Memorial gifts to The Salvation Army (Schenectady) or City Mission of Schenectady.
Visitation 4 PM to 7PM Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St.,(at McClellan St.), Schenectady; funeral service at First Presbyterian Church, 209 Union St., Schenectady at 11 AM Thursday with burial following at Park Cemetery of Scotia.
