Margie, Janet, Ted and Linda Sue The memory of him lingers. I was privileged to know him as a neighbor and ski-lift buddy. He was an elder in our church, a guardian of our childhood, teacher, but most of all I remember his laughter. I never saw him but that he would smile and greet whomever he encountered with warmth and kindness. I hope you continue to tell his stories. My condolences.

Many of us in the Biology Dept. at Union College first met Harvey at one of our departmental pot-luck dinners - he would be accompanying his spouse Margaret, who was a departmental member at the time. I'm sure that I can speak for all of us who immediately found Harvey a warm and friendly person who liked to engage in serious conversation - often enjoting posing challenging questions to see what response people would come up with. We also enjoyed his stories concerning their many travels, including Antarctica! After Margaret's retirement from Union, the Schadlers continued to attend our get-togethers - they were in the words of another emeritus, Prof. Twitty Styles, "part of the family". Harvey, you will be sorely missed, but we certainly will remember you fondly.

Harvey has been a Director of Lake George Land Conservancy since 2001. He contributed to our work to protect the beautiful land around the lake in so many ways. He served as Vice-President from 2003 to 2007. As Executive Director of LGLC, I knew that I could always count on Harvey's advice and support. When we were working on a particularly challenging negotiation for a large parcel of land, Harvey's opinions were pivotal in supporting staff's decisions for our final contract. I will always remember Harvey's warm smile and his generosity of spirit and be grateful that I knew him. Thank you Harvey for being here for all of us at Lake George Land Conservancy.
