Obituary of Charlene Ann Sunderland

After a long struggle with COPD, Charlene Ann Sunderland passed away on Friday, May 13th, at the age of 65. Charlene was a 1968 graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany in 1972. She married Michael J. Long, and in 1981 they moved into a home in Schenectady, New York, where Charlene lived until 2015. After career of more than 30 years with the State of New York, both with the Departments of Motor Vehicle and Social Services, Charlene retired in 2005. She was a devoted member of the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Roman Catholic Church; a member of the Capital District Bridge Association, Unit 115; a bridge master; and an investor in the Shelley Bridge Studio. She loved the family cottage and summers at Cape Cod, computer games, and her dogs, Ginger and Ju Ju. An only child, her parents, Charles Willet Sunderland and Geraldine Newell Sunderland and Michael Long, passed before her. She is survived by cousins in Massachusetts, and dear friends near and far. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.). A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday at 9 AM at St, Kateri, Union St. Burial will be in East Schodack, NY.
