Obituary of Lois Joyce Mix

Niskayuna- Lois Joyce Berner Mix, of Grand Blvd, passed away at home on Monday, February 9, 2009 with her loving family at her side.
Lois was born in Schenectady, daughter of the late Cecil and Helen Patneaude Berner. She grew up in Colonie, Mont Pleasant and Esperance, she was Schenectady Gazette All City Jacks Champion, played the trumpet with the Mont Pleasant High School Marching Band and worked at Woolworth's.
Lois graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1946 and graduated from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing in 1949. She went on to earned a Bachelor of Science from Union University. She married Dr. Bruce S. Mix in September of 1949. As a Registered Nurse, Lois worked in Private Duty, for the Veterans Administration, Doctor's offices, Glenridge Hospital and was an instructor of Nursing at Albany Medical Center School of Nursing.
Lois retired from nursing to begin her favorite job, raising a family and later assisted in her husbands Medical Practice. At the time of her passing, she was a member of First Reformed Church of Schenectady, Caduceus Garden Club and numerous Bridge Clubs. She was past President of Niskayuna Friends of Music; past president of Medical Auxiliary. Her former memberships included, 1945 Scotia HS Reunion Committee, 1946 Mont Pleasant HS Reunion Committee, Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 34, Second Reformed Church, Cotillion, Thursday Singers, Volunteer at Proctor's and various positions in her tireless work for the American Cancer Society.
Lois was a loving and devoted caretaker to her husband in his final years and her sister, Carol, in her battle with cancer.
Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, a person who loved life. She would always say she was born to be a wife and mother. She loved summers on the Great Sacandaga Lake with her family.
Predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Bruce S. Mix in 1997. Survived by her children; Leslie (Lawrence) Mannolini of Esperance, Darryl (Laura) Mix of Ballston Spa, Randall (Kathleen) Mix of Rotterdam; Grandchildren, Amanda, Stephanie, Michael and Teresa; her sister, Olive Berner of Schenectady and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her siblings, Gertrude Brion, Richard Berner, Alice Armitage and Carol Kochis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Lois' Life on Monday, February 16th at 11 AM at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady. Calling hours will be Sunday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street at (McClellan St.), Schenectady. Burial will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam.
