Obituary of Louise D. Liermann
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise D. Liermann, 79, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Ellis Hospital
surrounded by her loving children and devoted home aide.
Louise was born in Burlington, VT in 1934 and raised in the Boston area. A 1952
graduate of Chelmsford High, she went to secretarial school and was working in
Syracuse where she met her husband of 53 years on a blind date, the late August
O. Liermann.
After starting a family, they moved to Schenectady, NY where they spent the rest
of their lives raising four children, developing careers with GE Waterford and
pursuing their respective hobbies after retirement.
Growing up during the Depression and uprooted many times as a result of the War,
Louise enjoyed the last 55 years of her life living in the same house in
Niskayuna. Education was very important to Louise and she was proud to have
worked for some 20 years, helping to put her children through college and
graduate school. Louise and her husband had many fond memories of playing bridge
with family friends and enjoyed numerous family camping trips and vacations
throughout the Northeast, Canada and the West Coast over the years.
Louise had a passion for many hobbies throughout her life. An expert seamstress,
who taught her daughters how to sew, she developed a love for quilting and spent
many hours creating beautiful quilts. As a member of the American Quilters
Society, she participated in quilting shows, exhibiting and selling her work.
Later in life, with the assistance of her niece Heidi Shayla of Eugene, OR,
Louise spent countless hours on genealogical research, documenting her family
roots.
Louise is survived by her son William of Salt Lake City, UT; Douglas and his
partner Ela Highley of Juneau, AK; daughters Paula Liermann and her partner Gary
Boudreau of Durango, CO and Lisa Liermann of San Leandro, CA; brother-in-law
Lloyd Liermann of Manitowoc, WI; two sisters-in-law Leatrice Liermann of
Manitowoc, WI and Kathy Morgan of Santa Barbara, CA and many other nephews and
nieces. She was pre-deceased by her parents Charles and Dorthy Morgan; brother
William Morgan and niece Laurie Morgan; in-laws Nathan and Gloria Liermann Nass.
She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed.
The family is particularly grateful for the assistance of Louise's home aide
Denise Harris, whose loyalty over the past 5 years enabled Louise to remain in
her cherished home until her passing.
Services will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady, NY
12309 on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. There will be no viewing hours. Visitation from
10:30 AM to time of service at 11 AM, with a private burial to follow. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests donations to the Capital District Food Bank.
