Schenectady- Edgar Stillman (Bud) Read died peacefully Thursday evening, August 25th, with family by his side.
Born in Poland, New York in 1922, he attended Poland Central School and graduated from Syracuse University. During World War II, he was a member of the First Weather Squadron. Bud taught social studies in Old Forge and Jamesville-Dewitt. As a guidance counselor in Herkimer and Niskayuna, he inspired many to pursue higher education.
Important activities in his life included WMHT's RISE for sixteen years and Schenectady County and Niskayuna School Board committees. He also enjoyed playing the sax and clarinet, listening to music, and spending summers at Piseco Lake with lifelong friends.
Pre-deceased by two caring wives, Jane and Carolyn, and his son John. Survived by children David (Jo Ann),Jane (Don), Douglas (Connie), Susan, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, niece Kathy (John), nephew Bill (Sherri) and extended family Scott, Jack (Jayne) and Deborah (Hans). Also survived by grandchildren Laurel (Greg), Melissa (Justin), Jason, Jennifer (Rick), Michael, Nicholas, Delia, Emily, Elizabeth, Evi, Sarah, Emma and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Poland, New York, later this fall.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Orbis, the Susan B. Anthony Home (Rochester, NY) or a charity of one's choice.
