Schenectady—Carolyn Sweet, 79, passed away at Ellis Hospital on August 8th due to complications after suffering a heart attack on June 3rd.
The daughter of the late J. August Tiemann and Olga (Recheizer) Tiemann, she was born on November 18, 1934. Carolyn graduated from Nott Terrace High School Class of 1952 and from Union University School of Nursing Class of 1956. She worked at Ellis Hospital until marrying and starting her family. Returning to work she was the office nurse for Dr. Richard Breault, Dr. Norbert Kosinki, she worked at Planned Parenthood and was the Vice President of the family business, Tiemann's Cleaners and Tailors, Ltd.. After the sale of the cleaner's she worked at the Glendale Nursing Home as Supervisor of Nursing until her retirement. She then went back to work at Glendale as their Employee Health Assessor and then last year, went to work at Rely Health Care until June of this year. Carolyn was the Secretary for the Schenectady Turnverin and Albany Hospital Alumni Association, and she and her husband Bob were Co-Chairman of the reunions of Nott Terrace High School Class of 1952. Carolyn loved to travel, read and go to the shows, but the true joy in her life was spending time with her family, their cat Shadow and sitting on the back patio. Carolyn was a congregant of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schenectady.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert Sweet; devoted children, William R. Sweet of Niskayuna, Patti (Paul) Rutherford of Clifton Park and Linda Sweet of Schenectady; 6 adoring grandchildren, Victor Sweet, Justin Rutherford, Nicholas Rutherford, Connor Rutherford, Mitchell Burke and Mikaela Burke.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff at both Ellis Hospital and Sunnyview Rehab, and Pastor Derek LeCakes, for their compassion, caring, support, prayers, visits, love and consoling to the family during the past two months, having made these difficult moments a little easier to bear.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Union Street.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Jones and Ferrari Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.) on Monday evening from 4 until 7 PM.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations made in Carolyn's memory to the Sunnyview Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, 1270 Belmont Ave., Schenectady 12308 or to the Foundation for Ellis Medicine, 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady 12308 or to the City Mission, P.O.
