Schenectady-Frederick H. Grimm 95, of Schenectady, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife loving wife of 65 years, Marcia, daughter, Kristin and her husband Don, son Loren and his wife Heather; grandchildren Bart, Pat, Kelly, Robert, Damien, Kristy and Jake; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful for excellent care and support from the Kingsway Community in Schenectady.
The youngest child of his late parents, Max and Helen Grimm of Troy, NY, he was predeceased by his brothers Carl, William and Harold and their wives, his sister Helena, and an infant granddaughter, Helen.
He was a graduate of Troy High School, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Coast Guard Academy. He served as a Coast Guard officer during World War II in the Pacific. After returning home, he and Marcia moved to Schenectady where he owned Shaffer-Grimm Building Supply Co until his retirement in 1970. His retirement wish was "to be an employee," and he sold real estate for Blake Realty.
He served on the boards of Schenectady YMCA, Annie Schaffer Senior Citizens Center, Schenectady Home Furnishings and was a member of the Schenectady Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in Schenectady Kiwanis, Schenectady Racquet Club, Mayfair-Glenville V.F.W. Post #4660, and he and Marcia were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Niskayuna for over 60 years.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service, with Pastor William Clausen officiating, is scheduled for October 18, 2008 at 2 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, with visitation and refreshments after the service. Burial will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made in his memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 1930 Hillside Avenue, Niskayuna, NY 12309.
