First, condolences to the family, especially Jeff and Jim who used to play with my brother Richard (Ricky) Stevens on the hill in their yard and at their home.
My most vivid memory of Janet, was after Jeff, Jim, and Ricky were sledding on the hill, and a runner from one sled ran over Ricky's nose, so the boys walked up the hill to ask Janet for a "bandaid" and she went white upon seeing the cut/blood on Ricky's face. He was fine, and bandaged up, and continued playing I believe.
Janet was normally smilling and unflappable, but she went white and (I was told) nearly passed out upon seeing Ricky bleeding.
My brother is now in a nursing home in Rochester as his walking and strength are diminished. He has trouble hearing (like Dad) and trouble eating (essential tremor like Mom), so Jeff and Jim would not likely recognize Richard now.
Be well, allow time for grieving, and remember her smile and joy supporting your activies.

As the Executive Director of the Foundation of NYS Nurses, I would like to extend our condolences to the Gardner family. Although I was not fortunate to have met Janet, others connected with the Foundation remember her well and knew her as a wonderful friend and great nurse. She donated several items to our Center for Nursing History, including a blood pressure cuff used by her father. We are grateful to Janet and her family for thinking of the Nursing Foundation at this time.
