Walter J. Mackiewicz 95, life resident of Congress Street, Schenectady, passed away Sunday October 20, 2013, at home surrounded by loving family.
Walter was born in Schenectady, a son of the late Walter A. and Julianna Milewski Mackiewicz.
Walter served in the Army during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked at General Electric as a material handler and retired in 1980.
As an uncle, great-uncle and great-great-uncle, he enjoyed spending time with his family, he was particularly close to his niece, Lynn Goliber and nephew, Mike LaFreniere. Walter was a simple man. In addition to spending time with his family, Walter enjoyed fishing, horse racing, baseball, football, and long drives. Walter walked back and forth to work every day for 40 years to General Electric without missing a day of work.
Walter is survived by his loving sister Rosemary LaFreniere and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lillian "Lottie" Czub, Martin Mackiewicz, Jospeh Mackiewicz, Madaline "Madge" Mackiewicz, Julianna "Julia" Ellrott, Josephine "Dolly" Poirier and Marion Pone.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Church of St. Adalbert, Lansing St., Schenectady. A calling hour will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 Am to 10:30 Am at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Interment with Military honors will follow the Mass at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam.
