When I was in H.S. I was not very popular and never remembering going out with friends much at all. But one day on my desk I found a rather long two sided note about a "gathering in Bayville at the beach. Below the Harrison William Estate, above the high tide mark. You can swim, eat, drink, talk, get burned in the fire among other exotic but unrealistic processes of pleasurable living. A 50 cent contribution is expected. You can bring a friend, food or Frisbee." More was written, and I did go. Remember finding the place and remembering how nice it was for him to include me in something others were doing and I never got to do. I do wish I could have thanked him in person and to tell him how much it meant to me, which you can tell because I still have it in my yearbook and, that I knew right where it was, all these years later. Thanks to Elliot...Karen

Elliot and I became friends in Jr.High and remained friends and soccer teammates until we graduated from high school. We hung together, with our other friends, in school, outside of school. I was a regular fixture at his house, with his grandparents always trying to fatten me up. We fished and went to Jet games (the year they won the Superbowl) thanks to Elliot and his father. His mom called him Pookie and he wore a knit hat with an impossibly long tail. Out of all of us, Elliot had the conscience. He ALWAYS wanted to do the right thing, even through our wild adolescence. So many stories, too many to tell here, but will tell one: New Years -1970, sleepover at Elliot`s, Mr. P had gotten permission from parents to give us champagne(different era); we went outside and broke plates at midnight, didn`t drink much, but it didn`t take much; we were all suppose to be sleeping on the livingroom floor; we were wild, including Elliot; Mr. P. came halfway down the stairs and proclaimed "The next time I come down, I`m coming down swinging!" We were silent the rest of the night. I used that line with my own kids throughout their childhood. I miss Elliot, I miss his parents. Thanks Elliot for being such a great friend, and thanks Mr. and Mrs. P for being such major influences in my life.

I saw the news of Elliot's passing today. I worked with Elliot way back in the 1970's and 80s when he worked at the Nassau County Youth Board. He was a very special person who I admired for his sense of humor, professionalism and kindness. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. His list of accomplishments does nor surprise me. My sympathy to his family. Ellen Wolf

I grew up living next door to Elliot and his family. As kids we were always in competition over who was better in street basketball, tennis, soccer, swimming, cops and robbers and pretty much anything that can be imagined. Even as a young boy Elliot was special, always looking out for the underdog and looking to right the wrongs of our young world. My earliest memories were of Elliot and his brothers and grandfather fishing, In that we were fortunate to grow up in a small town environment that afforded us an idyllic childhood, Elliot’s imagination always insured we had adventure and promise. Although we spoke infrequently after he moved upstate he was the kind of friend that enabled us to pick right up where we left off as if we spoke every day. I know he is looking down from above for he truly was the salt of the earth and for certain heaven has special place for him.

Dear Wendy, Libby and the entire Pagliaccio family, All of us who considered Elliot a colleague and friend are so saddened at his passing. Elliot was a true professional who had great passion for his work. His outstanding leadership in government had an incredible positive impact on so many people and his most recent work on the Special Education Audit issue was a crowning jewel to his government service. I learned so much from Elliot over our past seven years working together. I considered him a mentor and someone for whom I had great respect. From our conversations, I know he loved his family very much and was so proud of each of you. I'm so sorry he did not have more time to spend with his new grandson but I know he cherished every second. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Deepest sympathy to all of you.

I was checking the web to see if a time had been posted for the January 11th memorial service. I googled "Elliot Pagliaccio" and the second item that came back was a pdf of a letter E wrote to his softball buddies last Fall. I could hear his voice in the words. So I poked around and found some video clips of Elliot and it was good to hear him again. So gentle and respectful and honest. I miss my friend and can only imagine how great is the void in the lives of his family and those who knew him well. To Wendy, Libby and Elliot's close friends and family I offer a prayer of peace to each of you and one of thanksgiving to our Creator for the gift of a life which touched me and made me want to become a better person.

To Wendy, Libby and the entire family: It was a sincere pleasure to work with Elliot. I met Elliot in 2007 when he joined the Comptroller's Office. He was always a kind, generous and caring person. He never sought the limelight, but rather pushed others to be out front. He had a unique way of ensuring that everyone got a chance to shine. He was a coach, a mentor and a friend to many. To those lucky enough to get to know him, he was a consummate professional with a keen understanding of the importance of public service and working toward the common good. He truly lead by example. As a friend, you couldn't have a better one. Even when his health was failing, it didn't stop him from asking how you were doing and if there was something he could do to help others. He never wanted to miss an opportunity to help someone. Our lives have been enriched by his presence. May you find comfort in what he meant to so many. And may Elliot rest in peace til we all meet up again. God bless!

Dear Wendy, Libby and family, we are blessed to have known Elliot, first and foremost, as an inspiring Outcome Management teacher. We have learned so much from him. Work aside, he truly enriched our lives with his generous spirit, positive outlook, and deep love for humanity. Over the years, with his many trips to Singapore, he grew to be our friend with his care and concern for us. He never failed to encourage us and make us smile and laugh. We will always remember his passion for what he believed in and in bringing out the best in everyone, especially in working with those in need. We will continue to work hard to continue his legacy in Singapore and will miss him greatly. We will treasure his friendship forever.

I first met Elliot in 1995 when I joined the staff of Children's House - then led by his good friend, Richard Dina. Dick had the foresight to engage Elliot, then with the Rensselaerville Institute, to help us begin to learn and incorporate outcome management techniques into our agency's many programs.

Just yesterday while on a trip with my son Brian Jr., we spoke about my concern for Elliot and my need to get in touch to see how he is doing only to find out my friend is gone. I met Elliot many years ago when we played basketball at Hillside Elementary one night a week. I knew his widow Wendy prior to their marriage as my son played soccer with Spencer and were in the Cub Scouts together. I was thrilled when they were married.

Elliot was my tennis and softball buddy. The toughest thing about playing him in tennis was getting him to accept that he had won a point. "No," he'd say, "my shot was out. You're just being a nice guy." He was a generous soul like none other. He might have all kinds of things going on at work, but mention the slightest problem of your own and he'd stop everything and listen for hours before offering help you thought could only come from a brother. Once, I had just moved to a new apartment and mentioned I was having trouble getting one dresser into the right spot. He showed up the next day with a dolly, helped me move the dresser, and then insisted on helping me move everything else until the place was all set up. He was there for hours. Then he ran over to a Chinese restaurant to get some take out. "My house warming present," he said. He spoke kindly of everyone and was incapable of uttering a mean spirited or nasty sentiment. Spending an hour with Elliot was like taking a Master Class on the art of being human.

I first met Elliot when he was hired by Dick Dina to be the first RHY Coordinator at the Nassau County Youth Board. He was smart, funny, hard working and always looking to find a better way to do things. I was still learning how to spell his last name correctly when he talked himself into being hired by a newly elected Congressman from LI to run his District Office. He always had a way of staying in touch and picking your brain even at a distance. I posted a photo I sent to him a little while back of one of our fishing trips. Still hard to believe what happened. Rest in peace my friend!

Thanks Elliot for all the pragmatic changes and sense of clarity that you have brough and will bring through your legacy to our lives!

Elliot was a friend of mine for 33 years. We went through many chapters of life together. Sometimes I was his boss but often he was somehow mine. We learned alot together. I feel so privleged to have spent hours with him since he learned about his inevitable death. He chose to spend those months healing and helping us who would be left behind. I know he lives on and we will see him again. But knowing his skills, I cant help but wonder how he has reorganized "heaven" already! He died with class and dignity, a real pro in all he did. Wendy and Libby thanks for sharing Elliot with so many of us. The world we know is better because of his time with us.Til later, EP, my friend. Richard "Dick" Dina, Freeport, NY

The time and commitment as well as compassion he shared showed went along way for me and it will be a relationship I will forever cherish. In our short time spent together we shared great stories and life lessons that will forever stay with me. He left his mark with me as well as in the OSC community and will be remembered as a great man. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear this sad news. Elliot hired me for my first real job in government - I was his summer intern about 25 years ago at DHCR. He was a great mentor and example, kind to everyone, and helped me learn and grow at DHCR, and really begin my career in government. I was happy to read about his successes, and so sad for your loss. Sending sympathies and peaceful thoughts to your family during this sad time.

RIP Elliot Pagliaccio. He was a truly unique individual who made a difference to so many in so many many ways. He inspired me with his professionalism when he worked at DFY. We became friends and he played tennis at my Kiwanis Benefit Tournaments and later joined my World Team Tennis team and played both singles and doubles. We would meet up occasionally over the more years and even enjoyed dinner out when I was feeling down about a broken romance. Shocked best sums up my feelings on our loosing this talented and caring man way too soon. Elliot, you will be greatly missed.
