Mary Elizabeth "Ibby" Dingle Bartlet passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 88 in Schenectady, New York on Wednesday December 11, 2013. Most loved and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Ibby is survived by son Ian (Kathy) and their children Alison and John (Jess) Bartlet; daughter, Jane, and her children, Louis and Ian Hessdorfer; and daughter Kate (Phil Ryan), and Phil's children, Michael and Jenna Ryan. Ibby was predeceased by her husband, John Coburn Bartlet (1980), and eldest daughter, Beth (Mary Elizabeth Caroline Bartlet 2005).
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Ibby spent her youth in Toronto and London, Ontario. She attended the University of Toronto prior to her marriage on August 15, 1947. The newlyweds settled in Renfrew, Ontario where Beth was born and moved to Ottawa, where, over the next several years, Ian, Jane and Kate, joined the family. When all four children were in school, Ibby started her career, firstly at The Canadian Geological Survey in Ottawa and then in 1967, following a move to Schenectady, S.U.N.Y. (Albany) in the Earth & Atmospheric Sciences Lab and The Department of Health. Ibby was a world traveler - both with Dad, and on her own following his death. Christmas brought her to family with holidays spent in Paris, France, London, England, Airdrie, Alberta, Aurora, Ontario and most recently Henniker, New Hampshire.
Ibby was an accomplished bridge player, artist, musician, gardener and quilter and was a valuable member of many clubs and organizations. A memorial service will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church in the Stockade, where she was a member and active volunteer for over 40 years, on Friday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family invites you to make a gift to Heifer International.
