Obituary of Margaret M. Schaninger

At the age of 89 years old, Margaret Marie (Happold) Schaninger of San Mateo, California passed away on August 20th in Belmont, California. Born on June 26th, 1924 as a twin sister and (Barbara Happold Sherman, deceased) and a younger brother Ernest Happold (deceased). She was born in in East Liverpool, Ohio, but was raised in Schenectady, NY and graduated from the University of Rochester. She was married in May, 1945 to Charles M. Schaninger (deceased) and then worked at General Electric as a calculator for the engineers after graduating. She had five children, Charles Michael Schaninger, Peter Schaninger (deceased), John Schaninger, Robert Schaninger (deceased) and Margaret Schaninger Ramirez. During her lifetime, Margaret and her husband Charles resided all over the country and even spent several years in France. Margaret was a family woman and enjoyed nothing more than spending time up at the family camp at Huletts Landing on Lake George with her husband of 55 years, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Throughout her lifetime, she was an avid reader, an expert bridge player and lover of good meals. Margaret is survived by her sister-in-law Jean (Schaninger) Gac of Palo Alto, CA; son Charles Michael Schaninger of Ballston Lake, NY and his wife Sue Press; her son John Schaninger of Clifton Park, NY; daughter Margaret Schaninger Ramirez of San Mateo, CA and husband Agustin Ramirez; daughter-in-law Edie Schaninger of Phoenix, AZ; along with her grandchildren Michael Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, Margaret Ramirez de Baldi and husband Juan Pablo Baldi, Caitlin Schaninger and husband Kevan Bayne, Jeffrey Schaninger, Corey Schaninger and Bethany Schaninger; and great-grandchildren Tobin Ramirez-Rohdenburg, Evan Ramirez-Rohdenburg and Lucia Baldi-Ramirez. Margaret is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on August 30th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home at 1503 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12309 and a graveside service on Saturday, August 31st at 10:00 am at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
The family has requested that no flowers be sent, rather memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to your local Hospice.
