Obituary of Serafina Y. Fenaroli
Please share a memory of Serafina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Serafina (Fi) Yolanda Fenaroli passed away peacefully at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home on Monday morning, November 27, in her 93rd year.
Fi is predeceased by her loving husband, Louis (Lou) J. Fenaroli, and her parents, Caroline and John Zurla. Fi and Lou were married in New York City on January 14, 1950.
Fi is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, John, and his wife, Susan E. Durgin, of Niskayuna, NY, and her grandchildren, Evan, of Philadelphia, and Andrew, of New York City.
Fi was born in New York City on December 2, 1924 and graduated from Newtown High School in 1942. She began her career with Equitable Life Insurance Company in Manhattan, first as a payroll clerk and later, a processing supervisor. She also worked for Clark's Women's Fashions in Jackson Heights, Queens. Her husband's career brought the family to the Schenectady area in 1959, where Fi worked with the Board of Elections and at the former S&H Green Stamp Redemption store.
Fi enjoyed planning and preparing family meals and party gatherings, passing along family recipes, playing a variety of card games and bingo, enjoying music, and ballroom dancing. Her love of fashion was evident in her daily attire, with an impressive collection of expressive hats lending to her signature look. She was active in the former St. Helen's Parish and school (St. Kateri Tekakwitha) as a Rosary Society member and classroom mother volunteer. Fi was especially enthusiastic as a long time participant and volunteer for the Town of Niskayuna Senior Center.
Fi's family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care and personal attention she received from the staff during her stay in the Stockade D-Wing at Kingsway Arms, where she benefitted greatly from their palliative care program.
