Obituary of Edith M. Barnes

Edith May Barnes 104, passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on Thursday June 9, 2016 with her granddaughter Noelle and her friend Marie by her side. Edith was born in Schenectady on April 4, 1912, a daughter to the late Joseph and Adeline Bradlee Weeks. Edith was a women of great faith and belonged to Advent Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Schenectady. She sang in the choir for over 50 years and was a soloist in Advent Christian Church. Edith enjoyed flowers, singing, bowling bocce ball and traveling. She worked for General Electric, Ingersoll Home, NYS Dept of Taxation where she retired from in 1973. The First Presbyterian "family" was an important part of her life. Her family would like to extend special thanks to her church, the staff at Kingsway Manor and especially her friend Marie Jahne, for all the kindness, love and support they gave to Edith. Edith was predeceased by her first husband Freeman Kenyon, whom she married in 1951, he died in 1977; her second husband John Barnes, whom she married in 1979, he died in 1992; her son Donald Weeks in 2015 and her daughter in-law Suzanne Weeks in 2014. Also predeceased by her sisters, Edna, Florence, Mildred and Dorothy; brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Francis and Earl. Edith is survived by her grandchildren; Christine DeGennaro, Holly Weeks, Jonathan Weeks and Noelle (Frank) Falvo; 5 great grandchildren; Carol Barnes, who was like a daughter to her and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13th at 12 PM Noon at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady, with a calling hour from 11 AM till the time of the service. Burial will follow the service at Ballston Spa Cemetery, next to John Barnes. Memorial contributions in Edith's memory may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, First Presbyterian Church or Community Hospice.
