Obituary of Vlasta Anne Matura

Vlasta "Anne" Matura, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Kingsway Nursing Home.
Anne was born in Buffalo, NY on March 24, 1919, daughter of the late Rudolf and Anna Pavlustik Hudecek. She attended SUNY Buffalo and SUNY Geneseo, where she was the editor of the student newspaper. After graduating, she taught school in Elmont, Long Island.
Anne was married Gerald C. Matura MD for 69 years, until his death in 2012. During WWII, he was a member of the Army Medical Corp. Upon his return, they moved to Schenectady, NY. They enjoyed traveling, especially aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2. During the summer, they spent most of their time at their cabin on Sacandaga Lake with their family.
Anne loved reading, writing and knitting. She adored her granddaughters and great grandchildren, and spent as much time with them as possible. She shared her interests with them, including her love of the piano.
Anne is survived by her son, Gregory and his wife, Dorothy; granddaughters, Sara (Daniel) DiBlasio, Jessica (Jesse) Goldfinger, and Libby (David) Elmendorf; great-grandchildren, Kate, Collin and Quinn Goldfinger, and Alivia DiBlasio. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Joseph Matura, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Kothen and Vera Bates, nephews, Peter Kothen and Mark Bates and niece Shelley Matura Serapillio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 10am to 12pm at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St, Schenectady. Burial will immediately follow at St. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
