Schenectady- Stephen J. Short 73, passed away May 13, 2014 at Ellis Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Stephen was born in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Herbert and Alta Mann Short.
He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with an Associates in Arts, in 1966 and went on to graduate with a BA from SUNY Albany in 1972. Stephen was a Licensed Amateur Radio operator, KA2ZPX, and was the owner of Accumetrics Associates, Inc. in 1978. He was "Caretaker of Vintage Wireless", using only original parts and materials and specialized in antique radio repair of E.H. Scott, Zenith and Stromberg Carlson.
Stephen traveled extensively to gatherings of Antique radio enthusiasts held throughout the country. He also spent time in CA and Alaska, which he found to be breathtaking. He spent most of his life in the Schenectady area. He was an independent guy until recently when health issues forced him to the Manor at Guilderland Ctr.. His knowledge and expertise were vast. He also worked as an auto mechanic at Elliott Buick, but quit when it became too complicated. Stephen also hosted a call-in Talk Radio Show, answering questions regarding auto mechanics.
Stephen is survived by his sister, Elisabeth J. Blackmore and her husband James of Waddington, NY; niece, Julie Bradley of Norfolk, NY; nephew James J. Blackmore of Madrid, NY.
There will be no calling hours and services will be private.
