Obituary of Roger H. Kerr

Roger Hoyt Kerr completed his earthly journey on March 1, 2013 after a great 85 year run. He has gone to join his wife, Cora Jean Fischer Kerr and his parents, Roger Sweeney and Ethel Hoyt Kerr. His life is celebrated by his children and spouses, Douglas & Lee Ann Kerr of Windsor, CT, Jamie Famiano of Schenectady, NY, Gregory Kerr of Niskayuna, NY, and Jeremy & Martha Kerr of Niskayuna, NY. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren and great grandchild: Betsy, Katie and Cooper Kerr, Joseph Famiano and his wife Stephanie and their son Justin, Alyssa Famiano, Samantha and Casey Kerr and, Logan and Braeden Kerr. Roger was employed by Schenectady Savings / Northeast Savings Bank for 32 years and ended his career as an officer of the bank. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Paul Smith's College, and attended Syracuse University and Union College. He served his country in WWII. He gave back to his community as a 30 year member of the Niskayuna Lions Club in which he served in many capacities including president and district officer. Roger is a third generation, lifelong member of Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and as a trustee. In his early years, Roger was an undefeated area tennis champ, a county doubles champ with his father and played on a variety of competitive basketball teams. Throughout his life he bowled in the church league and played tennis and golf. Calling hours will be at Jones Funeral Home at 1503 Union St. Schenectady from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday March 5. A memorial service will be held at Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church, 943 Palmer Ave. Schenectady at 10 AM on Wednesday March 6. If you would like to honor Roger, flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made in his name to Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
