Obituary of Marilyn A. Smith

Niskayuna-Miss Marilyn A. Smith formerly of Van Antwerp Village and Claire Bridge of Niskayuna passed away on May 22, 2014 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with her family in attendance. Born in Amsterdam, NY, Marilyn was the daughter of Thomas M. Smith Sr., and Marian G. Chisholm Smith. She was a Graduate of St. Mary's High School class of 1947 and the Amsterdam School of Commerce. Marilyn was a secretary and administrative clerk at the General Electric Company in Schenectady for 39 years. She later became a Hearing Reporter for the New York Department of Agriculture in Albany, NY. Marilyn was a member of the Shenendehowa Senior Citizens Center of Clifton Park, Annie Schaffer Golf League of Schenectady, the American Contract Bridge League, the GE Quarter Century Club, General Electric Athletic Association, and the GE Whitney Club (GE Corporate Research and Development). She was an avid bridge player, golfer, and artist. Marilyn was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Christian Community in Niskayuna and St. Antony's Catholic Church in Schenectady. She joins her father, mother, older sister Eleanor, and younger brother Thomas M. Smith Jr. in the life hereafter. Marilyn is survived by: a sister in law, 4 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great great grand nieces. Marilyn requested that in lieu of calling hours that you keep her in your thoughts and prayers. A mass will be celebrated at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish 2216 Rosa Rd. Schenectady, NY, on Saturday June 28th at 9 AM. This will be followed by a Christian burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson, NY, west of Amsterdam. The Family would like to say a special thank you for the friends who have supported Marilyn over the years.
