Obituary of Burton E. Dearing

Niskayuna- Burton E. Dearing 89, of Niskayuna, died Friday, January 1, 2010
with his loving family at his side.
Born in Corry, PA, son of the late James and Clara Patterson Dearing, he graduated from Allegheny College in 1942 with a BS in Chemistry. He pursued
graduate work at the University of Rochester in the same field. In 1948, Burton moved to Schenectady, where he joined KAPL as a chemist. He retired in 1983 as a Corrosion Engineer.
Burton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Brennan Dearing, his children:
Brian E. Dearing (Cindy) of Mequon, WI, Paul B. Dearing of Schenectady and Sara P. Dearing (Michael Rudko) of Schenectady, six grandchildren: Andrew,
Rachel, Jessica, Samuel, Matthew and Julieanne, his sister, Jean Rossbacher of Fredericksburg, VA, one nephew, James, and four nieces: Susan, Lisa, Amy and
Nancy. He was predeceased by his brothers, James, G. Bruce, John, Richard and Malcolm Dearing.
Burton was a member of The First Reformed Church of Schenectady and sang
for over 60 years in the Chancel Choir and served as the choir librarian.
He also lent his tenor voice to the Choral Society of St. Adalbert Church and Singers for Enjoyment of Albany, NY. While his sons were young, he was involved in the YMCA Indian Guides and was chief of the Iroquois Nation. He was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and the American Chemical Society. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and playing bridge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial service on Tuesday, January 5th at 12 noon at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady with Rev. Daniel Carlson officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. There will be no calling hours.
