Obituary of David M. Samatulski

David Mark Samatulski, 84, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by
his loving family. David was born in Bridgeport, CT on November 19, 1931. His parents, Stanley
and Mary Samatulski, moved to Mariaville, NY, where Dave grew up with brothers, Stan, Jack and Paul.
From a young age, David was an exceptional athlete. At Draper High School, he played varsity basketball,
baseball, and was a member of the track and field team. Upon graduating Draper, Dave attended Hartwick College, where he continued to excel at basketball, baseball and cross-country track. He was also involved in many other activities on campus, including as a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduating Hartwick in 1954, Dave was pursuing a career in professional baseball, when he was drafted into the
United States Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and was awarded a national defense service
medal. After completing his military service, he began a long and successful career in Insurance and
Investment Services, including more than 20 years with the Metropolitan Insurance Company.
Dave had a gentle nature and wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving father, and his family resided
for many years on Dean Street in Schenectady. Dave enjoyed playing golf and being a member of the
Schenectady Old Times Baseball Club.
He loved spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren, always taking an interest
in their studies and athletic pursuits.
David is survived by his four children, Mary Neufeld (Joel), John Samatulski, Danny Samatulski
and Kathy Dwyer (Kevin). He was predeceased by his brother, Jack. He is survived by his brothers, Stan and Paul; his grandchildren, Jodi, Andrew, Gregory, Katelyn, Michael, Lucas and Haley; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union
Street (at McClellan Street), Schenectady, NY 12309. Funeral service will be held the following morning
at 8 a.m., followed by the burial at 10 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial gifts in David's
