Obituary of Stanley K. Zemgulis

Stanley K. Zemgulis, Jr peacefully entered eternal life on August 24, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born in Easton, Pa on Nov.23, 1925, he was the son of the late Stanley Zemgulis and Anna Dibulskis. Stan graduated from Easton High School in 1943, Lafayette College in 1949 and Columbia Business School in 1952.He was elected to "Tau Beta Pi" and "Phi Beta Kappa" while in college.
He served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater and occupation of Japan, and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
In 1953, he married Marian Poswistilo and they had 4 children - Anne, Mark, Stephen and Susan.
Stan was employed by GE for 37 ½ years. He joined GE after receiving his engineering degree on GE's "Test Program" and spent almost his whole career at GE in facilities work. He worked as plant engineer at Small Appliances in Allentown, PA; Advanced Facilities Engineer at the Air Conditioning Plant in Tyler, TX; and Staff Mechanical Engineer in the former "Real Estate and Construcion" (RECO) Department here in Schenectady, from which he retired.
Stan was an active parishioner at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Schenectady (former St. Helen's) where he served many roles. Most notably, he was the Clerk of the Works during the church's renovation in 1991. He is also a graduate of the Diocesan Formation for Ministry Program, now known as the Kateri Institute.
Stan was a Knight of Columbus for more than 50 years and attained the rank of 4th Degree. He served as the Faithful Navigator of "Our Lady of the Roses" Assembly in Tyler, TX.
Stan was a member of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) for more than 50 years as well as a member of the former GE Elfun and Quarter Century Club.
Stan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian; his four children - Anne (Rogerio) Zemgulis, Mark Zemgulis, Stephen (Faye) Zemgulis, and Susan Zemgulis, OP. He is also survived by granddaughter, Tanya (Brian) Dean, and great grandchildren Rebekkah, Brian Jr., Charlee and Ronnie of Rotterdam, NY as well as step grandchildren Mayara, Rayana, Thaynara and great grandchildren in Brazil.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9 AM at St. Kateri Parish (formerly St. Helen's Church), Niskayuna. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM at St. Kateri Parish, 1803 Union St., Niskayuna. Burial with Military honors will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center.
