Schenectady-Thomas S. Getty, 91, of West Holm Road in Schenectady passed on peacefully at Ellis Hospital on August 7, 2009 . Born in Schenectady , NY the son of the late Elizabeth B. and James Getty. Tom graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Bentley College , Boston , MA . He was a veteran of the U.S. Army after serving as a Captain of an artillery unit in the Pacific arena during WWII. He was employed by the Packard Motor Car Co., Detroit , MI prior to his military service. He then became President/CEO of Blair Coal and Oil Co., Inc., Schenectady , NY until 1959. Tom was subsequently employed by National Life Insurance Co. and Aetna Life and Casualty Co. until his retirement in 1983. He was an active member of Mohawk Golf Club, Schenectady Curling Club, Royal Poinciana Golf Club of Naples, FL. and the First Reformed Church in Schenectady. Tom was predeceased by his sister, Florence Lamb of Troy, NY. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane Getty; daughter Pamela Jane McCassey of Lancaster , MA ; son, Thomas S. Getty, Jr. of Alpharetta , GA , two grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Getty of Edinburgh, Scotland and Thomas S. Getty, III of Seattle, WA and niece Jean Hauer of Hilton Head, SC. Family and friends are invited to honor Tom in celebration of his life Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11 AM at the Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 1503 Union St. , Schenectady , NY . Burial will follow at Memory's Garden. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 4-6 PM at the Jones Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Ste. 1010 Rockville, MD 20852 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
