Myrtle F. Ives of Coburg Village Way passed away peacefully in the company of her family and with her husband at her side on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Ellis Hospital. She was 95.
Myrtle was born in Syracuse on September 17, 1919, daughter of the late Merrill and Jeanette (Pearsall) Fargo. She is the wife of George G. Ives of almost 75 years, whom she married on August 31, 1940.
Myrtle and George lived in Rexford for 53 years and most recently lived in Coburg Village, where she was an active volunteer. Having moved to Schenectady at the age of 3, she graduated from Nott Terrace, Class of 1938. She worked as a private secretary for the manager of HS Barney Finance in Schenectady, but her greatest pride was raising her family. She was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Schenectady where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Capital District Miniature Club, a 50 plus year member of the Schenectady County Home Bureau and the Country Garden Club of Clifton Park.
Survivors in addition to her beloved husband George include her children, Karl (JoAnn) Ives of Rexford, Cheryl (Randy) MacNeil of Scotia, Douglas (Patricia) Ives of Scotia, adoring grandchildren Bruce (Kathleen) Ives, Heidi Ives (Rebecca Helm), Wendy (Michael) Carpenter, Sharon MacNeil, Brian Ives, Gregory (Azure) Ives, Melissa (LT) Rutter, Melanie Stark (Breina Cohn), Timothy (Hannah) Stark, 14 great grandchildren, a brother William Fargo of CT and several nieces and nephews.
Myrtle's grandson Eric MacNeil, great grandchild Taylor Ives, daughter-in-law Sandra Ives and her siblings Carol Preddice, Jean Etchell, Charlotte Bochman and Thomas Fargo predecease her.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Community Hospice and the Ellis staff on C-1 for the care given to Myrtle and her family at this time.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Coburg Village Auditorium, 1 Coburg Village Way, Rexford. Reception will follow in the auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Hospice or to the Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Myrtle Ives.
