Schenectady- Peter Grover Ipsen 93, of Schenectady, passed away Wednesday evening March 7, 2012 with his loving family by his side.
Peter was born in Lynn, MA, son of the late Carl and Miriam Grover Ipsen. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School, class of 1935. Peter then went on to graduate from the University of Michigan in 1939 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Professional Engineer and a Manager, working at Main Plant General Electric in Schenectady for 40 years in the Large Steam Turbine Division. Peter was awarded 14 patents during his career and was a member of the GE Elfun Society. He was also a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir. He was a skilled craftsman. Peter also loved canoeing and the great outdoors.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Wilson Ipsen; 4 children, Dr. Carol A. Ipsen (James D. Alpert) of Voorheesville, Dr. John D. Ipsen (Kris Wegerson) of Duluth, MN, James C. Ipsen (Emily Hard) of Lancaster, PA and Daniel P. Ipsen (Jamie Biggs) of Glenville; 9 grandchildren, D. Benjamin Ipsen, Kathryn I. Alpert, Anders J. Ipsen, Nathan P. Ipsen, Jennifer R. Ipsen, Anna C. Ipsen, Erin R. Ipsen, Heather A. Ipsen, and Laurel E. Ipsen; brother David C. Ipsen of Berkeley, CA, and Joan Ipsen Blatz (Durand) of Charlottesville, VA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 2 PM at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Peter's memory to the First Reformed Church, 8 N.Church Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or to a charity of your choice.
