Betty-Lou Rooney (nee Ruhling) of Clifton Park passed peacefully at home on December 14, 2014. She leaves behind her four children, Elizabeth (Beth) Ann Rooney of Clifton Park, George Martin Rooney of Scotia, Kathleen Nelson and husband Ronald of Forest, VA and Michael and wife Lynda of Columbia, MD, two grandchildren, Owen Nelson and wife Crystal (Lakeland, FL) and Theresa Robison and husband Taylor (Alpharetta, GA) and 5 great grandchildren. Born in Highland Park, MI, she married Martin Joseph (Mat) of Schenectady in 1950, her husband of 53 years who predeceased her in 2003. Throughout her life, Betty-Lou was a long time member and supporter of organizations promoting and encouraging women such as P.E.O., the Daughters of the American Revolution, Soroptimist International and the Panhellenic Alumni Association. An important part of her life started in 1982 when she became a Shaklee Distributor where she felt she could truly help others stay healthy. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the Jones Funeral Home (1503 Union St, Schenectady) on Monday, December 22 from 1-3pm with a Memorial Service immediately following. Interment will be held the next morning for immediate family at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to either Whiskers Animal Benevolent League (www.ewhiskers.com) in honor of Betty Lou's love of cats or Community Hospice (www.communityhospice.org).
