The little brick house across the street always seemed to be filled to overflowing with Hans and Maryann and all the chidden. It truly was an enchanted home, built by Hans. We were blessed to have such wonderful neighbors and we miss the family that gave the home so much love and life. We were so sad to hear that Hans had passed away. When we were lucky enough to spend time with him, "Opa" was a man of few words. But when he spoke, you listened. Sometimes he could hide his smile behind a straight face and you weren't sure if he was pulling your leg. My favorite story he told me went something like this:

Dear Trudy, John and family: So sorry it is never a good time and we never have enough time with our loved ones. There is a poem I will send,you will keep your Dad with you and he will be there when you have Christmas, Birthdays, and just doing those things he has given you, when you are building something etc. A gentilenman who made his way in two different worlds...to do his best for the family he loved thinking of you... We have fond memories of our visit to Hans' place upstate back in the '70's and beyond. He was a fine man and will be missed.
