Obituary of Rosemary Mullaney

NISKAYUNA--Rosemary Eckel Mullaney, 89, formerly of Morgan Avenue and recently of Glen Eddy, Niskayuna passed away on October 4, 2012. A native of Schenectady, the daughter of Rose and Joseph Eckel, she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and the College of St. Rose. After graduation she taught in the business department at Draper High School until her marriage to Gerald Mullaney on November 3, 1945, when he returned from serving as a pilot in the China Burma India theater of World War II. After her three children reached school age she returned to substitute teaching in many of the area high schools. She had many interests including bowling, golf and duplicate bridge. She worked for many years on the Ladies Cancer Golf Day and the Heart Ball. She was also President of the local Chapter of the St. Rose Alumni, and for many years an officer in the American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Mohawk Golf Club where she enjoyed golf and bridge. In later years she travelled extensively in Europe. With her husband she took many golfing vacations, including trips to Dorado Beach, Spain and Hawaii. They also traveled throughout the country to the Hump Pilot reunions. Together they went to China with a group of pilots, where they were given a special welcome by the Chinese officials. After her husband's death she continued to attend the reunions with other family members. She is survived by her son, Michael, and his wife Debby, of Niskayuna, her daughter, Joanne Pieper, of Bozeman, MT and her daughter Susan Maycock, and her husband Alan of Santa Fe, NM. Also survived by grandchildren Lori (Brian) Finch, Chevy Chase, DC; Lisa (Christopher) McCarthy, Wexford, PA; Gregory (Katie) Mullaney, Louisville, KY; Timothy Mullaney, Alexandria, VA; Christopher (Angie) Maycock, Chicago, IL; Laura Maycock, Greenfield, MA and a step-grandson, Andrew ( Beth )Maycock, Scotia, NY. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and 2 nieces, Barbara (Daniel) Daly and Elizabeth (Gregory) Hockzema and several grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Mullaney is predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Eckel. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Chris, Cayla and Chrissy Volans, the nursing staff on Ellis Medicine A5 and Kingsway Arms Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received during her final illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, State Street, Schenectady at 10 AM on Friday, October 12th. Calling hours are at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street on Thursday, October 11th from 5 - 7 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery.
